Types of Kitchen Lighting Fixtures

When talking about kitchen lighting fixtures, there will be many kinds and types of lighting fixtures that come up. The different purposes of the different types of the lighting fixtures add to the complexity of the kitchen lighting. Before you go to the market and choose lighting fixtures for your kitchen, it would be best if you know briefly the different types of kitchen lighting and its purposes first. There are basically three different types of kitchen lightings.

Task Lights

As the name has suggest, task kitchen lighting fixtures are lightings fixtures placed on parts of the kitchen where you will spend most of the time preparing meal and performing other tasks inside the kitchen. The kitchen lightings are placed on kitchen parts such as the kitchen island, the kitchen countertop, and the sink area. The main purpose of task light is to give you adequate amount of lights so that you will be able to perform multiple tasks inside your kitchen perfectly. Pendant lights and under the cabinet lights are often the ones used as tasks light although you can also use other lighting fixtures such as track lightings or chandelier.

Accent Lights

Accent lightings are usually used to accentuate certain things inside a room such as a series of arts or certain focal points inside a room. You can also use accent lights inside your kitchen. For example, use accent lights to illuminate your kitchen island where you want it to be the focal point of your kitchen. You can also use accent light to highlight your collection of dish ware or certain architectural properties of your kitchen that in your opinion worth to be accentuate and receive attention. The lighting fixture that is often use as accent lights are pendant lights.

Ambient Lights

The last type of kitchen lightings is the ambient light. Ambient light are lighting fixtures that is used to create general lighting or used to substitute for natural light. Ambient lightings are very suitable for kitchens that have no windows and that no natural light can come inside the kitchen. Ambient light will illuminate the whole kitchen in equal amount of lighting intensity. The kitchen lighting fixtures that are often used as ambient lights are recessed ceiling lights that are arrange all throughout the kitchen so that they give equal lights to all part of the kitchen and a few gentle lights that are arrange around the perimeter of the kitchen.
